Professor Datuk Ts. Dr. Roziah Mohd Janor made history as the first woman Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia, after being appointed on Aug 08 2021/September 3, 2021. As the leader of a modern civic university with a special mission to produce graduates of professionals in science, technology, business, the creative industry, and the humanities, Prof. Datuk Ts. Dr. Roziah is responsible for ensuring that UiTM upholds the mandate to improve the socio-economic status among the Bumiputeras.

Professor Datuk Ts. Dr. Roziah Mohd Janor is a Statistics Professor at the Faculty of Computer Sciences & Mathematics. She has held various key leadership posts over the last 30 years, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International), Assistant Vice-Chancellor of the Institute of Quality and Knowledge Advancement (InQKA), Director of Curriculum Affairs, and Director of Academic Quality. She is also a member of the Malaysian Board of Technologists and has received various awards, including the UiTM Staff Excellence Award and a Gold Medal for her research product, titled Hadhari Scorecard, at INPEX, America’s largest invention trade show.

She has overseen global prominence initiatives that have resulted in several international plaudits for the university. Among these accolades are a Gold Award from QS Rankings for the QS-Apple 2020 Creative Competition, a ranking of #105 in Asia University Rankings, and a ranking of 100-200 in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings. Based on the key findings by QS World Rankings by Subject 2022, UiTM is named 42 in the world for Hospitality and Leisure Management meanwhile 14 subjects were successfully ranked with 29% of improvement.

Furthermore, Prof Datuk Roziah and her team published a 20-year UiTM impact study that highlights the significant impact of UiTM on the regeneration of socio-economic development of surrounding communities. Meanwhile, her recent UiTM Professorial Lecture titled “Managing University Data for Quality: From the Lens of A Practitioner” expounded on her research, experience, thoughts, and recommendations relating to strategies, data, and qualities that can ultimately help improve a university’s position.

In her first 100 days, Prof Datuk Roziah’s leadership qualities can be seen through the visual and textual display called Rozie Times exhibition. The exhibition documents the developments, significant events, and achievements involving the entire Keluarga UiTM and it was specially curated for everyone.

Speaking at the 2022 New Year Address to Keluarga UiTM, Prof Datuk Roziah outlined five actions to be undertaken by UiTM to achieve GRU2025 (a Globally Renowned University by 2025). Amidst the current problems and uncertainties in the world, the UiTM theme of “Global Competencies” this year will continue to ensure that the 23 previously established KPIs are met in 2022.

Previously, in her inaugural address, Prof Datuk Roziah highlighted the importance of reputation, as well as the necessity to Reset, Recover, and Restore the GRU2025 plan to reflect the present global realities. This is to ensure the long-term viability of UiTM2025’s strategic planning and the achievement of more realistic and meaningful results. She also reiterated the need to implement the three degrees of separation approach in completing any of the projects to be carried out by the members of UiTM. She is spearheading a RM3 million programme to deploy selected Heads of Department overseas to strengthen UiTM’s global international presence and establish UiTM as a global player in academia, research, publication, mobility, and collaboration with reputable global institutions and organisations by 2025.

Prof Datuk Roziah founded the UiTM First Living Lab in Kundasang to recognise alumni who encourage entrepreneurial skills in order to generate more entrepreneurs in the local community. She is also spearheading the First Free WIFI and Internet Project for the Community Using White Space Technology through UiTM Holdings Sdn Bhd.

On the recent occasion of Hari Wilayah held on February 8, 2022, her exemplary leadership and contributions to the university and beyond was recognised with the conferment of the Darjah Kebesaran Panglima Mahkota Wilayah (P.M.W.) which carries the title Datuk, with His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda The Yang di-Pertuan Agong XVI Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah bestowing the honour.

Prof. Datuk Roziah, who leads the Future UiTM, is well-known for her meticulous work and personalised approaches. She is open to new ideas and constantly brings people together, both seniors and juniors. She mentors new talents and promote achievers, enforce usage of the latest technology and innovation, celebrates creativity, and turns visions into reality to inspire the world via the narrative of Made in UiTM, Made for the World.
